Surat, Gujarat – In a heart-rending story of love, sacrifice, and medical brilliance, a young man named Ajay donated his kidney to save the life of his sister, Sonal Soni, who had been suffering from end-stage kidney disease for over three years in the diamond city of Surat. The life-saving transplant was successfully performed at Shalby Hospital, Surat, bringing hope and joy to the family after years of struggle.

Sonal had been on dialysis three times a week for the past 36 months. Her condition was critical, with a baseline serum creatinine of 10 mg/dL and no urine output. For her, every day was a battle for survival. But her brother, Ajay, stood by her unwaveringly — and ultimately gave her the gift of life.

“It wasn’t even a question for me,” said Ajay, holding back tears. “She’s my sister. I would give anything to see her healthy again.”

Rupesh Soni, husband of the patient said, “I wish and pray to god to not give such a suffering to any person on this earth. We have faced a lot of difficulties in the last four years since the day my wife was diagnosed with end-stage kidney disease. I have done everything, from ayurveda to homeopathy etc., but nothing worked. I want to tell the patients and their relatives to consult good doctor and go for transplant”

The transplant was carried out by a highly experienced team led by Dr. Mukesh Goyal, Chief Nephrologist, and Dr. Juhil Nanavati, Chief Urologist and Transplant Surgeon. Dr. Goyal has performed over 500 kidney transplants in Hyderabad, and Dr. Nanavati brings experience from 250+ transplants in New Delhi.

“The success of this transplant lies in both medical expertise and unconditional love,” said Dr. Goyal. “To see a brother step forward like this is deeply moving.”

Post-transplant, Sonal’s creatinine levels dropped to a healthy 1 mg/dL and she began passing urine—an excellent indicator of a successful graft function. Anaesthesia was administered by Dr. Kevin Desai & team, while Dr. Arool Shukla and the ICU team ensured post-operative care, supported by dedicated nursing and RMO staff.

Dr. Nanavati remarked, “This case reminds us of how science and selfless love can come together to create miracles. It was our honour to be part of their journey.”

As the Soni family celebrated Sonal’s rebirth, they also urged others to consider organ donation.
