Nepal Flood: 21 Indians Rescued by Army, Over 100 Still Missing

A major rescue operation is underway in Nepal after devastating flash floods struck the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli river basin, affecting Rasuwa and neighbouring districts.

The Nepal Army has rescued 21 Indian tourists who were stranded in the flood-hit areas, while search and rescue operations continue for hundreds of people who remain missing.

According to the latest information from Nepalese authorities, 157 bodies have been recovered, while around 403 Nepalese and foreign tourists remain missing in Rasuwa.

Of those reported missing, 341 are foreign nationals, including 133 Indians, while 62 are Nepalese nationals.

Nepal Army Rescues 123 People

The Nepal Army conducted a major helicopter rescue operation on Thursday morning, rescuing 123 people from areas affected by the flooding.

Among those rescued were 95 people from the Timure area, while seven people trapped inside a hydropower project tunnel in Haku were also evacuated.

The Army also confirmed the safe rescue of 21 missing Indian tourists.

Search and rescue teams are continuing operations in other areas where people are believed to be trapped, including tunnels and isolated settlements.

Two Kannadigas Rescued

Two people from Kalaburagi, Karnataka, who had been stranded in flood-hit Nepal, have also been rescued and moved to a safe location.

Karnataka disaster management authorities contacted the two individuals and collected information about their condition.

The Karnataka government is now making arrangements to bring them from Nepal to Delhi, where accommodation has been planned at Karnataka Bhavan.

Earthquake-Avalanche Link Under Investigation

Nepal’s Foreign Minister has said that initial reports indicate an earthquake may have triggered an avalanche, which could have contributed to the devastating flood.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact sequence of events behind the disaster.

The flash floods were preceded by a sudden surge of water from the Tibet side, causing extensive destruction across several areas.

Several Nepal Districts on Alert

The disaster has prompted heightened alerts across several districts, including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitawan and Gorkha.

Helicopters and security personnel have been deployed to evacuate stranded people and assist with search and rescue operations.

Downstream areas in India are also monitoring the situation. Authorities in Bihar are reviewing the potential flood threat, while the administrations of Maharajganj and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh have been placed on high alert amid concerns over rising water levels in the Gandak-Narayani river system.

Rescue Operations Continue

With hundreds of people still missing, rescue teams are working to reach isolated areas and locate people who may be trapped.

The Nepal Army and other security agencies are continuing helicopter evacuations and ground-based rescue operations, while Indian authorities are also coordinating efforts to locate and assist Indian nationals affected by the disaster.

The situation remains critical as Nepal continues its response to one of the region’s most devastating recent flood emergencies.
