The Indian Air Force (IAF) is fully prepared to undertake relief and rescue operations in Nepal following devastating flash floods that have caused widespread destruction across parts of the neighbouring country.

According to Ministry of Defence sources, India is preparing to send relief supplies, medicines and other essential equipment to Nepal as rescue operations continue in the flood-affected areas.

An IAF C-130 aircraft is scheduled to depart for Nepal, while a C-17 aircraft is expected to follow with additional relief material and equipment. The aircraft have been placed on standby to support the government’s relief and rescue efforts.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also been placed on standby should its personnel be required for rescue and relief operations in Nepal.

Flash Floods Cause Widespread Destruction

The devastating flash floods were triggered by floodwaters coming from the Tibetan side of the border, severely affecting Nepal’s Nuwakot and Dhading districts.

Several villages, settlements, roads and bridges have been damaged or completely washed away. Hydropower projects and other critical infrastructure have also suffered extensive damage.

Rescue teams and authorities are continuing assessment and relief operations in the affected regions.

The Nepal Army has deployed helicopters along with disaster-response personnel to assist people stranded by the floods and assess the extent of the destruction.

More Than 100 Indians Reported Missing

The disaster has also affected Indian nationals travelling or residing in the affected areas.

According to information released by the Nepal Tourism Board, 384 travellers, including 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals, have been reported missing from the affected areas.

Among the missing foreign nationals are 105 Indian citizens and 37 NRIs, according to the available information.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal has established emergency contact numbers for Indians seeking assistance or information regarding people affected by the flash floods.

Emergency Numbers for Indians in Nepal

+977 985 131 6807

+977 970 910 7500

Both numbers can also be contacted through WhatsApp.

India Steps Up Support for Nepal

India’s preparations come as Nepal continues large-scale rescue and assessment operations following the devastating floods.

With the IAF aircraft and NDRF teams on standby, India is prepared to provide logistical, medical and emergency assistance as requested by the Nepalese authorities.

The deployment of C-130 and C-17 aircraft is expected to help transport relief supplies and specialised equipment rapidly to areas affected by the disaster.

As rescue operations continue, authorities in both countries are working to locate missing people, assess infrastructure damage and provide emergency assistance to those stranded by the floods.
