GANDHINAGAR : Former Agniveers seeking police jobs in Gujarat will get relief from two key recruitment hurdles. The state government has exempted them from written examinations and physical efficiency tests for designated uniformed posts, making the recruitment process easier for eligible former military personnel.
The Home Department announced the latest amendment on October 9, 2026. It adds Rule 5A to the existing recruitment regulations, granting former Agniveers an exemption from the written examination during direct recruitment.
The amendment will take effect once it is published in the government gazette.
Harsh Sanghavi Highlights Security Experience
Speaking in Surat, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said former Agniveers could use their military experience to strengthen the state police force.
“These young people have worked day and night at the borders to protect the nation,” Sanghavi said. He added that their experience in difficult conditions could benefit Gujarat Police and the state’s law and order system.
The move aims to help trained personnel transition from military service to state police jobs.
Which Police Posts Are Covered?
The exemptions apply to designated posts under the Home Department. These include:
Armed Police Sub-Inspector
Armed Police Constable
SRPF Platoon Commander
SRPF Police Constable
Eligible posts in the Prison Department
Former Agniveers will still need to meet the applicable eligibility conditions for their chosen posts.
20% Reservation and Age Relaxation
The state government had introduced a 20% reservation for eligible former Agniveers under rules announced on July 17, 2026.
To qualify, candidates must meet the prescribed conditions, including Gujarat residency requirements, completion of Agniveer service in the Army, Navy or Air Force, and document verification.
The existing rules also provide a three-year relaxation in the maximum age limit. Candidates from the first Agniveer batch are eligible for a five-year relaxation.
