SURAT: In an age when children communicate through instant messages and video calls, students of a Surat school went back to the basics of heartfelt communication by putting pen to paper. Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya in Junagam, Hazira, celebrated World Post Day on October 9 with a letter-writing activity to revive the tradition of handwritten letters among young learners.
Students from Classes 3 and 4 participated in the activity, which aimed to familiarise them with postal services and show how traditional communication remains relevant in the digital age.
Students Write Letters to Parents
As part of the celebration, students received postcards and wrote affectionate letters to their parents. They then personally posted the cards in a mailbox installed on the school premises.
The hands-on activity introduced children to the process of sending a letter. It also encouraged them to express their feelings through handwritten messages rather than relying only on digital communication.
The school organised the programme to develop practical skills and help students understand the emotional value of personal correspondence.
Postmaster Explains Postal Services
Jinalben Patel, branch postmaster of Sunvali Post Office, attended the programme as the keynote speaker. She explained the history of the Indian Postal Department and its range of modern services.
Students learnt about different types of postage stamps, the correct way to address an envelope and various postal savings schemes.
The interactive session also introduced them to the changing role of post offices and their customer-focused services.
Keeping the Tradition Alive
The celebration sought to bridge the gap between traditional communication and modern technology. By writing and posting their own letters, students experienced a process that many children today rarely encounter.
The activity also highlighted the role of schools in helping young learners understand everyday services through practical experiences.
World Post Day is observed on October 9 each year to mark the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874. The occasion highlights the importance of postal networks in connecting people and communities.
Through the initiative, Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya gave students an opportunity to discover the joy of handwritten letters and understand how postal services continue to connect families in an increasingly digital world.
