India is accelerating its push to become a major global hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure, with an Indian AI infrastructure company reportedly placing a major order for Nvidia’s latest AI computing systems.

According to a Bloomberg report, AM Intelligence has placed a binding order for approximately 9,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin GPU systems for its first AI data centre in Hyderabad. The deployment is expected to begin next year and will form the initial phase of the company’s ambitious AI compute-as-a-service business.

Hyderabad to Become Major AI Computing Hub

AM Intelligence, backed by the founders of renewable-energy company Greenko Group, plans to initially deploy around 200MW of AI computing capacity at its Hyderabad facility.

The company is targeting demanding workloads such as trillion-parameter AI models, advanced generative AI systems and next-generation agentic AI applications.

The Hyderabad data centre is expected to serve cloud providers, AI research laboratories and organisations developing AI models for the Indian market.

The initial computing capacity has reportedly already been purchased by a US-based customer, although the identity of the customer has not been disclosed.

$8 Billion Investment Plan

The Hyderabad project is part of a much larger infrastructure expansion. AM Intelligence reportedly plans to invest more than $8 billion across its broader AI infrastructure programme.

The company aims to eventually build a 1GW compute-as-a-service platform spanning India, the United States, Finland and Malaysia.

By 2030, AM Intelligence reportedly wants to expand its overall AI data-centre capacity to approximately 5GW across India, Europe and other international markets. The expansion is expected to be funded through a combination of debt and equity.

Nvidia Vera Rubin at the Centre of the Expansion

The reported order of around 9,000 Nvidia Vera Rubin systems highlights the growing demand for specialised AI computing infrastructure.

As AI models become increasingly complex, companies require large-scale GPU clusters capable of handling training, inference and other computationally intensive workloads. The planned Hyderabad deployment is intended to provide this type of infrastructure to organisations that may not want to build their own AI data centres.

The project could also strengthen India’s position in the rapidly expanding global AI infrastructure market.

Renewable Energy Could Help Control Costs

Energy consumption is one of the biggest challenges facing large-scale AI data centres. AM Intelligence plans to leverage access to Greenko’s renewable-energy infrastructure as part of its strategy.

Lower-cost renewable power could help the company manage the significant electricity requirements associated with large GPU clusters while keeping compute pricing competitive.

Greenko founder and president Mahesh Kolli has highlighted energy costs as an important factor in the economics of AI computing.

India’s Growing AI Infrastructure Ambitions

The planned Hyderabad facility comes as India looks to strengthen its domestic AI ecosystem and reduce dependence on overseas computing infrastructure.

With access to international undersea cable networks, AM Intelligence also intends to provide computing resources in India to customers in other markets. The company says connectivity could allow US-based organisations to access Indian AI infrastructure with latency of roughly 300 milliseconds.

If the company’s expansion plans are realised, its 5GW target by 2030 would represent a significant addition to India’s AI computing capacity.

The reported 9,000-GPU order therefore represents more than a single data-centre deployment. It signals the scale of infrastructure investment that companies believe will be required to support the next generation of AI models and applications.
