GANDHINAGAR, GUJARAT : In response to recent tragic events, the state government has mandated local governing bodies to conduct a comprehensive survey to prevent similar disasters in the future. This initiative, focusing on fire safety measures in educational institutions, has already led to the closure of 67 pre-schools that were found lacking in basic fire safety standards.

The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has been actively involved in this drive, issuing notices to several educational institutions for non-compliance with fire safety regulations. During the inspections, significant deficiencies were identified in prominent schools, prompting immediate action.

At Veda International School, inspectors found that computer classes were being conducted in the basement, a serious violation of fire safety norms. Similarly, Anandniketan Vidyalaya was found to have an auditorium in its basement, posing a significant risk in case of a fire. Notices have been issued to both schools, and the basements have been closed until they meet the required safety standards.

“The safety of our children is paramount,” stated a spokesperson for the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. “We are taking these inspections very seriously and will continue to enforce stringent fire safety regulations to ensure that such tragedies do not recur.”

The crackdown on non-compliant institutions underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing fire safety in schools and pre-schools. The swift action to close down 67 pre-schools serves as a stern warning to other institutions about the importance of adhering to fire safety protocols.

Parents and guardians have expressed relief and support for the government’s proactive measures. “It’s reassuring to see such prompt action being taken. Our children’s safety should always come first,” said Meena Shah, a concerned parent.

As the drive continues, more schools and pre-schools are expected to undergo rigorous inspections. The government has urged all educational institutions to review and upgrade their fire safety measures immediately to avoid disruptions and ensure the safety of students.
