SURAT, GUJARAT : A sudden landslide at a construction site on Sarthana-Gadhpura road in Surat claimed the life of one laborer and critically injured two others. The incident occurred when debris unexpectedly gave way, crushing the workers beneath. Mohammad Zakir, one of the laborers, died at the scene, while Lala Chhapri and Anshulbhai were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The Sarthana police and fire department quickly responded to the emergency, conducting rescue operations to save the trapped laborers. Despite their efforts, Zakir could not be saved. The police have initiated an investigation into the accident to determine the cause and to identify any potential negligence or safety violations.

This incident in Surat is part of a disturbing pattern of construction site accidents across Gujarat, highlighting the urgent need for improved safety measures and stricter enforcement of regulations to protect laborers.

Gandhinagar Accident Claims Another Life

On Thursday, a similar tragedy struck at the Bosky Sun Light construction site in Kudasan, Gandhinagar. Two laborers were buried under a collapsed mud rock while working on a basement excavation. Both were taken to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The Infocity Police have taken legal action and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse.

Fatal Accident in Kadi

Three days ago, a young migrant laborer lost his life in a sewage pit accident near Nandasan in Kadi taluka. The youth slipped and fell into the pit behind a private company on the Uma Nagar village highway. Nandasan police and the fire brigade were called to the scene, where they recovered the body and sent it for postmortem examination.

Past Incident in Ahmedabad

A tragic accident four months ago in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar highlighted similar safety issues. Four laborers were buried under a rockfall at a construction site in Swaminarayan Colony. Despite the swift response of the fire brigade, which dispatched four vehicles, one laborer died and three others were seriously injured. Local residents had initially rescued one laborer before the fire brigade arrived.

These recurring accidents reveal significant gaps in construction site safety protocols. Laborers, often migrant workers, face hazardous working conditions with inadequate safety measures. The recent incidents in Surat, Gandhinagar, Kadi, and Ahmedabad call for immediate attention from authorities and construction companies to enforce stricter safety standards.
