Gujarat : Rs.26 Lakh Hing Stock Seized in Umargam

VALSAD : A major food safety operation in Gujarat’s Valsad district has put 4.67 tonnes of asafoetida (hing) powder worth ₹26.81 lakh under the scanner after authorities seized the stock from a manufacturing unit in Umargam.

The Food and Drug Regulatory Authority, Valsad, conducted an inspection at Ever Green Food Mfg. Co., located at Plot No. 2837 in the Umargam GIDC area, on Sunday. During the investigation, officials found that the unit was undertaking job work for Everest Food Products Pvt. Ltd.

Food Safety Officers collected samples from the available hing stock and sent them to the Rajkot laboratory for analysis. Authorities said further legal action will depend on the laboratory findings.

The seized stock comprised 1,199.4 kg of loose yellow hing powder valued at ₹5.99 lakh and 3,469.4 kg of loose black hing powder valued at ₹20.81 lakh.

Designated Officer Ashish Valvi said, “A total of 4,668.8 kg of hing powder has been seized and enforcement samples have been sent to the Rajkot laboratory.”

He added that action would be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and applicable rules and regulations after the test report is received.
