Surat : Two teenage brothers were mowed down by a speeding train, while they were playing on the railway tracks at Sachin in Surat.

The victims, identified as Prince Sharma, 13, and Lokesh Yadav, 14, were brothers who had ventured out to play near their house in Sachin on a fateful Sunday evening.

Their failure to return home triggered panic among family members, prompting an immediate search in the vicinity. Worried and anxious, the family initiated a search operation, eventually reaching out to the railway police when the boys remained unaccounted for till late at night.

Subsequently, the railway police mobilized a search effort and discovered the lifeless bodies of the brothers along the railway tracks. It is suspected that during their playtime, the teenagers inadvertently wandered onto the railway track and tragically met their demise, presumably struck by a speeding train.

Siva Kumar, a close acquaintance of the deceased boys’ father, recounted, “The teenagers had gone to play on the railway tracks in the evening and did not return until late at night. The bodies of the children were found on the railway track. The actual cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem examination.”

The railway police have initiated an investigation into the incident, registering it as an accidental death. Preliminary assessments point towards a tragic accident resulting from an encounter with a moving train while the boys were engaged in their recreational activities near the tracks.

Authorities stress the importance of awareness and caution, especially around railway tracks, urging the community, especially parents and guardians, to educate children about the dangers associated with such areas. The railway police emphasized the need for enhanced vigilance and preventive measures to avert such heart-wrenching tragedies in the future.

An officer of  railway police stated, “We have registered a case of accidental death and our investigation is ongoing. We appeal to everyone to be cautious and avoid venturing onto railway tracks or trespassing in restricted areas to prevent such unfortunate incidents.”
