GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat is moving to dismantle the culture of rote learning as the state government launched the PARAKH Cell and a new DigiLocker service for Class 10 and 12 marksheets under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja inaugurated the PARAKH Cell at the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) in Gandhinagar on October 7, while also launching the digital marksheet facility aimed at making document access and verification faster for students.
Vaja said the initiative would bring a fundamental change in the way students are assessed.
“With the launch of the PARAKH Cell, students will be freed from rote learning and move towards competency-based education,” he said.
The PARAKH Cell, functioning at the state level under the guidance of the National Assessment Centre PARAKH established by NCERT, will develop competency-based question banks and assessment tools.
It will also support implementation of the Holistic Progress Card (HPC) according to Gujarat’s language and curriculum. Teachers and question paper setters will receive training in modern assessment methods, while technology such as PARAKH ITMS will be used to make assessment more transparent and robust.
Class 10, 12 Marksheets on DigiLocker
In another major digital push, GSEB will make Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets available on DigiLocker after declaration of examination results.
According to the Education Department, digital marksheets covering around one crore students from 2021 to 2026 have already been uploaded on the platform.
Students will be able to access and download their documents through the DigiLocker app, reducing the need for physical copies and simplifying verification for higher education and employment opportunities in India and abroad.
Vaja said the integration of education and technology would strengthen Gujarat’s education system and make student services more efficient.
“The state is committed to providing quality education and a transparent assessment system,” he said.
The minister also congratulated the Education Department and Gujarat Board officials for completing the digital integration.
