Air India Express Eyes Domestic Flights from Surat
Officials from Air India Express revealed a staggering shift in their aircraft acquisition strategy, highlighting that while previously, a new aircraft was added to their fleet every two years, the current pace has accelerated to adding a new aircraft to their flight roster every six days. This growth trajectory has emboldened the airline's aspirations to venture into the domestic air services sector.
Surat : Air India Express, a prominent subsidiary of Air India, has set its sights on expanding domestic air operations from Surat, marking a significant leap in its flight frequency and routes. The announcement came during the inauguration of the Surat-Dubai flight, signaling a remarkable surge in the airline’s fleet expansion and plans for domestic connectivity.

Preparations have swiftly commenced for the launch of the Hyderabad-Surat-Hyderabad flight service, scheduled to commence operations from January 15, with initial plans for a four-day-a-week service.
Sanjay Ezhava, the president of the Surat Airport Action Committee and a vocal advocate for airport development, expressed optimism about the expanding air connectivity from Surat. He stated, “The initiation of domestic services from Surat signifies a significant milestone for our city. It’s the result of persistent efforts and representations made to ensure enhanced air connectivity for our citizens.”
Following representations made by the Surat Airport Action Committee, officials from Air India Express have assured efforts toward launching the Kochi-Surat-Kochi air service in the near future, further solidifying the city’s air network.
In an ambitious move, Air India Express aims to launch the Bangkok-Surat-Bangkok route starting from February 2024, with subsequent plans to introduce flights to Malaysia and Singapore, bolstering Surat’s international connectivity.
The expansion of Air India Express’s operations from Surat not only signifies a boost to the city’s air travel but also aligns with the growing demand for increased regional and international connectivity from the region.
