New Delhi: Management postgraduate Saumya Saxena, who has worked in both the corporate and startup worlds for over a decade, entered a new chapter of her career with the publication of her nonfiction book, Scoring Is Boring, at Title Waves in Bandra, Mumbai. Notable book bloggers and college students joined Saumya and the publishing team for the occasion. At the occasion, Saumya discussed how creating this book was a labour of love and how she appreciated every second of the process.

Saumya was a devoted mother who ensured her children were healthy and well educated despite having a flourishing job in the business world. At one point, she became concerned that her kids were putting too much emphasis on school. They felt like they were sinking under the weight of the educational system and the pressure from their peers. She saw that other teens exhibited the same stress behaviours. She began to focus her efforts on finding solutions to the problems that were leading so many teenagers to take their own lives. Because of this, she decided to create a book on the topic.

According to Saumya, “Scoring Is Boring” serves as a manual for both teens and their parents. The parents struggle to rein in their own high expectations, and as a result, they put undue pressure on their children to get a high score. Teenagers have a hard time becoming interested in standard school courses taught in the conventional manner necessary to get a perfect grade. This ennui prevents students from focusing on their studies and having fun at university. Children’s anxiety is exacerbated when their parents’ expectations aren’t met, which puts a strain on their family relationships. Parents have been working on this issue for years, but very few have found a viable answer. These topics are discussed in the book I wrote.

The author intends Scoring is Boring to be a self-help book that delves into the complexities of life and questions the common perceptions of achievement. Beautifully written and full of deep ideas, Saumya Saxena has crafted a novel that will speak to people of many backgrounds.

The celebration for the book’s release began with a reception for the invited guests, who included famous authors, readers, and art patrons. There was a buzz of anticipation in the air as guests anticipated the debut of this literary gem. A heartfelt “thank you” from the author to the audience for their unending enthusiasm. She spoke eloquently on the process of writing the book and the ideas it addresses, holding the attention of her listeners.

“Scoring is Boring” is meant to be a resource for parents as they assist their kids deal with the ever-present pressure to perform well in terms of score. The authors of this book argue that in order for their offspring to succeed in life, both professionally and personally, their parents need to take on the role of coach and mentor. The primary motivation for writing this book was to provide a means through which worried or perplexed pupils might have their emotions validated. It addresses students who struggle with studying for and passing exams in fundamental courses. It’s a guide that helps young people improve their study habits without worrying about grades, as stated by Saumya.

At the conclusion of the book launch, Saumya thanked everyone who had helped make it a success: the students from different universities, the planning committee, the volunteers, the media partners, and the Title Waves team. She also expressed gratitude to her husband, Deepak Saxena, a vice president of human resources for a major real estate company, for his unwavering support during the five years she spent writing the book. Scoring Is Boring may be purchased in many different places in India, including major bookshops and e-commerce sites like Amazon and Flipkart.
