GOA: Veteran actor Nana Patekar died of cardiac arrest at his home in Goa early Thursday, October 8, 2026, leaving the film industry mourning one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive and powerful performers. The 75-year-old actor died at 5:20 am despite prolonged attempts by doctors to revive him.
The timing of his death has added a poignant edge to the tragedy. Just four days earlier, while attending an event in Dona Paula, Goa, Patekar had reflected on the uncertainty of life.
“We all have to leave one day; I do not know if I will be here tomorrow or not,” he had said.
According to Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital, Patekar messaged a friend around 2:30 am, saying that he was not feeling well. The friend did not see the message immediately. He later reached Patekar’s home around 4 am after receiving a call.
The actor was reportedly sweating heavily and his condition deteriorated rapidly before he lost consciousness. An ambulance was called, while emergency personnel began cardiac massage at the residence.
Patekar was taken to Manipal Hospital at around 4:20-4:30 am. Doctors attempted CPR for approximately 45 minutes, but he could not be revived. He was declared dead on arrival.
No family members were reportedly present at the house at the time. His friends and caretaker were with him. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Patekar’s last rites will be performed at his farmhouse in Pune.
PM Modi Pays Tribute
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the actor’s death, praising his exceptional range and unmistakable screen presence.
“Few actors possessed the depth, distinct identity, and unique presence that Nana Patekar did,” Modi said, adding that Patekar displayed “remarkable versatility and creativity in every role.”
“The characters he portrayed will be remembered for generations,” the Prime Minister said.
From intense dramatic performances to memorable supporting roles, Patekar carved out a unique place in Indian cinema. His death marks the end of a remarkable acting career that left an enduring impression on generations of audiences.
