Ahmedabad | Gujarat — Gravita India Limited has announced a major expansion of its recycling footprint with a ₹160 crore greenfield copper recycling facility at Mandvi in Gujarat, marking a significant step in India’s transition toward sustainable metal production and circular economy practices. The plant, funded entirely through internal accruals, will have an installed throughput capacity of 29,400 metric tonnes per annum and is expected to be commissioned within 12 months.

The upcoming facility will focus on producing refined copper and value-added copper alloys using advanced high-recovery pyrometallurgical processing and electrolytic refining systems. Designed with a closed-loop material handling system, the plant aims to maximise metal recovery, reduce energy intensity and ensure compliance with environmental norms through real-time emissions monitoring and effluent treatment infrastructure.

Gravita said the project aligns with its long-term strategy to deepen its non-ferrous recycling value chain as demand for copper rises across electric vehicles, renewable power infrastructure and electronics manufacturing. The Mandvi location has been chosen strategically due to its proximity to ports and logistics corridors, enabling efficient procurement of raw materials and export access to South and Southeast Asian markets.

“The commissioning of our Copper Recycling Plant at Mandvi marks a significant inflection point in Gravita’s capacity expansion trajectory,” the company said in a statement. “This investment reflects our financial discipline and conviction in the long-term structural demand for secondary copper.”

Industry analysts believe the project could help reduce reliance on primary copper imports while supporting India’s push for domestic metal circularity and low-carbon manufacturing. Besides strengthening Gravita’s portfolio, the facility is also expected to generate employment and drive economic activity in the Kutch industrial belt.
