Surat | Gujarat — In a shocking escalation of violence in Surat, a second “half encounter” incident in just four days has come to light from the Limbayat area, where police shot a murder accused in self-defence after he allegedly attacked officers during an arrest attempt.
The accused, Rahul Kumar Sanjaynath Jogi (28), was already wanted for the brutal murder of 17-year-old Anurag alias Raj Pawar, which took place late Sunday night following a minor altercation near Ganesh Nagar. According to police, a bike collision led to an argument, after which Rahul allegedly stabbed the teenager in the chest with a sharp paddle weapon, killing him on the spot.
Limbayat Police Inspector D.D. Chauhan said teams were deployed immediately after the murder. “We received information that the accused was hiding near Mithikhadi. When our team reached the spot, he attacked Constable Mukesh Bagul with a paddle. In self-defence, I had to fire two rounds from my service revolver,” Chauhan stated.
One of the bullets struck Rahul’s right leg, after which he was taken to New Civil Hospital for treatment. Constable Mukesh Bagul, who sustained injuries during the attack, has been admitted to a private hospital in Godadara and is said to be stable.
Eyewitnesses at the hospital reported that the injured accused was seen crying in pain, repeatedly saying, “Don’t do this… please don’t,” as he was being treated under police custody.
Police records reveal that Rahul Jogi has an extensive criminal history, with at least 17 cases registered against him across multiple police stations including Kapodra, Katargam, Sachin, Udhna, and Salabatpura. His offences include robbery, chain-snatching, prohibition violations, and repeated violent assaults.
