Gujarat : Ex Anand Congress Councilor Brutally Murdered

Anand | Gujarat — In a shocking act of violence that has rocked Anand district, former Congress councilor of Anand Municipality, Iqbal Malek alias Bala, was brutally murdered while on his routine morning walk at Bakrol Lake on Tuesday morning.

According to police, unidentified assailants confronted Malek during his walk, and after a heated argument, attacked him with sharp weapons. Malek suffered fatal injuries to his abdomen and neck, dying on the spot.

Panic in the Area

Local residents who witnessed the horrific scene raised an alarm and alerted authorities. Within minutes, a police convoy led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) J.N. Panchal rushed to the spot. The attackers, however, managed to escape immediately after the assault.

Speaking to reporters, DySP Panchal said, “As soon as we received information about the murder, our team reached the site. The victim, Iqbal Malek, had been attacked with deadly weapons, leading to multiple serious injuries. Separate police teams have been formed and a thorough investigation has begun.”

Complaint Filed by Family

Following the incident, Malek’s brother, Irfan Hussain Yusufmiya Allahuddin Malek, filed a formal complaint with the police. He alleged that his brother had left home for his morning walk when unknown persons fatally assaulted him.

The motive behind the murder remains unclear. Police are examining personal, political, and land-related angles to ascertain the reason for the attack.

Political and Community Shock

The murder of Malek, a known political figure in Anand, has sent shockwaves through the Congress ranks and the local community. While Congress leaders refrained from making early allegations, party workers gathered at Bakrol to demand swift justice.

A local Congress worker said, “Iqbalbhai was known for his straightforward nature and service to the community. His murder in broad daylight has terrified residents. We demand immediate arrest of the killers.”

Police have begun scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity of Bakrol Lake and nearby routes to track the attackers’ movements. Forensic teams were also deployed at the crime scene to collect evidence.

“The crime appears to be premeditated. We are investigating all possible angles – whether personal enmity or political rivalry. The perpetrators will be caught soon,” DySP Panchal assured.
