Ahmedabad : The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has seized 1 kg of MD (Mephedrone) drugs, valued at over ₹1 crore, in a significant operation targeting the narcotics trade. The drugs were intercepted during a delivery at Sanand Chowkadi in Ahmedabad, concealed in the spare tire of an Eco car. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the seizure, and further investigations are underway.

The operation was conducted by a team led by Police Inspector JK Makwana, acting on specific intelligence inputs. The arrested individuals have been identified as Asim Husain, alias Goto, who was receiving the drugs, and Vishnu Bhai Virabhai Vadi, the delivery driver from Idar. The drugs were being smuggled along the Jaipur-Ratlam route, a known corridor for narcotics trafficking. The accused reportedly used miscellaneous goods to disguise the contraband, which was concealed in the stepney of the vehicle.

The accused have been detained, and legal proceedings have commenced. The Crime Branch is actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the operation. Preliminary investigations suggest that the smuggling network may have connections extending beyond Gujarat, indicating a coordinated effort to distribute drugs across multiple regions.

Union Minister Harsh Sanghvi acknowledged the Crime Branch’s action, highlighting it as a notable step in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking. Sanghvi commended the team’s efforts and emphasized the importance of continued vigilance against the distribution of illegal substances.

PI JK Makwana, who led the operation, was also involved in the recent confiscation of 200 kg of ganja.

The use of common vehicles such as Eco cars for drug smuggling reflects the evolving tactics of traffickers, who seek to blend into regular traffic and avoid detection. The drugs were hidden in the stepney, a method that highlights the lengths traffickers will go to conceal illegal substances. Such concealment methods pose challenges for law enforcement and require targeted inspections and intelligence to uncover.

MD, also known as Mephedrone, is a synthetic stimulant drug that is widely abused and carries significant health risks. The drug is known for its addictive properties and is commonly associated with younger demographics. The seizure of such a substantial quantity of MD highlights ongoing efforts to prevent the proliferation of harmful substances within communities.

The Crime Branch continues to investigate the origins and intended distribution channels of the seized drugs. The operation remains active, with efforts focused on dismantling the broader network involved in the smuggling activities. Authorities are also examining the financial and logistical support behind the trafficking operation.
