50,000-Litre Water Tank Collapses on House in Morbi Village

MORBI: A demolition operation in Hirapar village of Tankara taluka turned into a chaotic scene when a 20-year-old, 50,000-litre water tank unexpectedly collapsed in the wrong direction, crashing onto a nearby house and shop. The incident damaged property but fortunately caused no casualties.

The old tank was being demolished after a new water supply system was constructed in the village. However, instead of falling at the designated spot, the massive structure reportedly toppled towards Rajnibhai’s house and shop.

The impact damaged walls, the roof, awning and a solar water heater. Freezers, groceries, furniture and other household items kept inside the premises were also buried under debris.

“The accident occurred while the tank was being demolished,” said K.P. Baldaniya, Deputy Engineer of the Water Supply Department, adding that the demolition was being carried out in coordination between the Taluka Panchayat and Gram Panchayat.

Tankara Taluka Panchayat TDO Gautam Bhimani said the Hirapar Gram Panchayat had awarded the demolition contract to Morbi-based contractor Divyarajsinh Jadeja.

Following the incident, the village Talati-cum-Mantri conducted a panchnama (panch rojkam) to assess the damage and initiate further action.
