Surat :  A video of a young man skating dangerously on the Sahara Darwaja flyover bridge, holding onto a passing two-wheeler, has sent shockwaves through Surat. The stunt, captured on camera and shared widely on social media, has sparked outrage and concern for public safety.

This reckless act is not an isolated incident. Surat has witnessed a worrying trend of individuals performing life-threatening stunts on busy roads, often putting themselves and others at risk. Wheelies, rash driving, and acrobatics on two-wheelers are becoming a disturbing norm, with little regard for traffic rules or the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

The flyover video, in particular, highlights the blatant disregard for basic safety measures. The young man, precariously balanced on his skateboard, is entirely dependent on the pillion rider’s grip for stability. One wrong move could have catastrophic consequences, not just for the stunt performer but also for anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity.

Reacting to the viral video, police sources confirmed that the location is likely Sahara Darwaja and have termed the act “a serious matter endangering the lives of others.” They have informed traffic inspectors and initiated an investigation to identify the individuals involved.

However, questions remain about the effectiveness of current measures to curb such reckless behavior. The frequency of these incidents raises concerns about inadequate enforcement and the need for stricter penalties to deter such stunts.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety. It is a wake-up call for authorities to take stricter action against violators and implement effective awareness campaigns to educate the public about the dangers of such stunts. More importantly, it is a reminder to individuals that indulging in such reckless behavior comes at a heavy price, potentially endangering not just their own lives but also the lives of others.

“The flyover skating video should not be another statistic in a growing list of reckless road incidents. It should be a catalyst for change, prompting stricter enforcement, increased awareness, and a collective commitment to making Surat’s roads safer for everyone” said Sharad Kapadia, president of Surat Citizen Council Trust.
