Surat Industries Face Production Halt for PM Modi Visit

Surat : Industries in Surat–Sachin GIDC, Hojiwala Estate, and Ichhapore GIDC–are bracing for potential losses in the crores of rupees following restrictions imposed for PM Modi visit to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) on December 17.

The Surat police issued a notification to these industrial estates along the Sachin-Magdalla highway, demanding a halt to all industrial goods transportation and banning the movement of transport vehicles on the entire route during the PM’s visit.

Sources within Sachin GIDC confirmed the suspension of transport vehicle movement for the entire day on Sunday, December 17, effectively preventing any industrial goods transportation on that day. While manufacturing activity won’t be mandated to stop, the lack of raw materials and finished goods transportation will significantly disrupt operations.

“Due to the anticipated high volume of VVIP movement along the route on December 17, we’ve requested industrial units in Sachin GIDC to restrict the entry and exit of all transport vehicles,” said Sachin GIDC Police Inspector JR Chaudhary.

The sudden restrictions have sent shockwaves through the industrial community. Many businesses are concerned about the financial impact of the forced production halt and disrupted supply chains. Industry leaders estimate the potential losses to run into crores of rupees, impacting both small and large enterprises.

“While we understand the need for security during the PM’s visit, the timing and scope of these restrictions are causing significant disruption and financial hardship,” said an industrialist. “We urge the authorities to consider alternative solutions that minimize the impact on industrial activity while ensuring the safety of the VVIP delegation.”

The disruption caused by the PM’s visit highlights the complex relationship between security concerns and economic activity. While ensuring the safety of dignitaries is paramount, finding a balance that minimizes the disruption to local businesses remains a challenge.
