Surat, Gujarat – A 34-year-old woman living in Laskana area in the diamond city of Surat committed suicide with her seven-year-old boy by consuming poisonous substance. The ill-fated woman succumbed at the New Civil Hospital on Thursday, while her son is undergoing treatment at a private hospital..

Police said that they are unable to find an exact cause that drove the mother to commit suicide with her son. The mother was living at her father’s residence in Laskana in Surat with her son after she lost her husband in 2020. The Laskana police has registered a suicide complaint and investigation are going on.

According to the information received, the 34-year-old woman is hailing from Dedkani village of Amreli and was residing with her parents at  Gadhpur township located at Kathodara in Laskana in Surat. The woman had her first marriage, in which her husband died in an accident in the year 2020. After that, she married again, but when it was not successful, she returned to her paternal house in Surat.

Police said that the woman left the house on Wednesday morning saying she wanted to take her ailing son to the doctor. When she did not return home even after evening, the family members started searching. Meanwhile, the woman informed people including her friend that she had consumed poison near the Mama Dev temple located on  Pasodara Road in Surat, which led the woman’s family to rush to the spot in the evening.

The son said, “My mother made me drink poison and I consumed it.” The family members reached the Mama Dev temple around 9 pm. At that time, the woman was found unconscious and her son was sitting next to her. After that, both of them were immediately shifted to a private hospital. While being taken to the hospital, the son also vomited and the family members asked him what happened? Then the son stated that his mother asked him to consume poison and he did so.

Both mother and son were shifted to a private hospital. Meanwhile, the mother was shifted to the New Civil Hospital  for further treatment, while the son is undergoing treatment in a private hospital. The woman died during treatment on Thursday morning. An atmosphere of mourning has prevailed in the family following the woman’s death.

After being informed about the woman’s suicide in Laskana, the police came and recorded the statements of the family and are conducting postmortem proceedings. According to the family, no reason has come to light for the woman’s suicide yet, although the Laskana police are investigating the matter further.
