MS University Convocation: Murmu Honours 12,557 Students

VADODARA : A landmark academic milestone unfolded at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda on September 23 as President Droupadi Murmu presided over its 75th annual convocation, urging young graduates to turn education into a force for national and social progress. The President’s visit to the convocation was part of her Gujarat programme from September 21 to 23.

A total of 12,557 students received degrees at the ceremony, including 229 PhD scholars, 2,857 postgraduate students, 657 PG Diploma students and 8,814 undergraduate students.

Thirty meritorious students were also awarded gold medals by President Murmu.

The President particularly highlighted the strong representation of women among the gold medallists, describing it as a reflection of India’s changing social landscape and growing participation of women in education and other fields.

“Education becomes meaningful only when it benefits the country and society,” Murmu told the graduating students.

She urged them to keep national and social interests in mind as they begin their professional journeys.

“Your education will truly be meaningful only when it yields benefits for the country and society,” she said.

The President also spoke about the rapid pace of technological change and the growing role of artificial intelligence.

She said AI could provide solutions to problems, but the responsibility of asking the right questions remained with individuals.

Murmu also called upon the youth to contribute towards the goal of a developed India while remaining rooted in national values.

“Today, the entire world has its eyes on India, and the country will make great strides through the efforts of its youth,” she said.

Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat also addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of moral values and national commitment alongside academic achievement.

He called upon young people to become active nation-builders and contribute to the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
