SURAT, GUJARAT : Tensions escalated in Surat on Tuesday as the Yadav community and the family of a youth, brutally murdered on Monday, took to the streets in protest. The Surat police resorted to mild lathicharge to control the situation after Vishal alias Atul Vinod Yadav was killed by five individuals in a public stabbing at Biliyanagar in Dindoli-Navagam.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday when Vishal, a native of Bihar residing in Ganpatidham society in Navagam-Dindoli, was stabbed multiple times by five youths, including two brothers. The attack took place near Gyan Bharati School, resulting in Vishal’s death on the spot. The attackers, identified as Mukesh Bhanubhai Mir, Gopal Bhanubhai Mir, Abhishek alias Kalia Akhilesh Pathak, Anand alias Kalupure Ramashankar Yadav, and a minor, all hail from the Dindoli area.

According to police sources, the murder was a result of a previous altercation. Three days prior to the attack, the accused had threatened to sever Vishal’s head during a fight. This enmity culminated in Monday’s brutal stabbing, which left the entire area terrorized. The police swiftly responded to the scene, apprehending four of the suspects. However, Gopal Bhanubhai Mir remains at large.

“The killing was done out of enmity stemming from a fight that took place a few days ago,” stated DCP Bhagirath Gadhvi. “Five people, including a minor, planned and executed the murder of Atul Yadav. After the incident, the accused fled Dindoli and went to another area. Currently, four accused have been arrested, while Gopal Mir is still absconding.”

Following the murder, the deceased’s family and the Yadav community members took to the streets, blocking the Dindoli bridge and demanding justice. The situation quickly became tense as some protesters attempted to clash with the police. In response, the Surat police employed a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd and restore order.

The family and community’s frustration was palpable, as they mourned the loss of Vishal and called for the immediate apprehension of the remaining suspect. The protests highlighted the community’s anger and fear following such a brutal and public act of violence.

“We are devastated by Vishal’s murder. He was attacked so brutally in broad daylight, and now we demand justice,” said a family member of the deceased. “The accused had threatened him just a few days ago, and now they have taken his life. The police must find the remaining attacker and bring him to justice.”

Another protester from the Yadav community expressed their concern, saying, “This kind of violence is unacceptable. We want to feel safe in our own neighborhood. The police need to ensure such incidents do not happen again.”
