Surat : LPG cylinder blast leaves Father-Son Duo in Critical Condition

Surat :  A pre-dawn explosion in Pushkarnagar society in Sachin, Surat sent shockwaves through the quiet neighborhood on Wednesday, leaving a 50-year-old man and his son with critical burn injuries. The blast, reportedly caused by a leaking LPG cylinder, ripped through their home, shattering windows, and flinging doors open.

Deshraj Chhotelal Paswan, a skilled worker in a local embroidery unit, was preparing breakfast when the tragedy struck. As he lit a match, the accumulated gas ignited, causing a thunderous explosion that jolted residents awake.

“It was like a bomb had gone off,” said a shaken neighbor, still visibly disturbed. “We rushed out to find flames engulfing their house and heard Paswan’s screams.”

The blast severely burned both Deshraj and his son, Rajkumar, who was asleep at the time. With the help of emergency services, they were  rushed to the New Civil Hospital in critical condition.

“They have sustained serious burn injuries,” confirmed a hospital source, adding that the extent of their burns and their prognosis were still being assessed.

The blast’s impact extended beyond the immediate family. The force of the explosion shattered windows and doors, while the ensuing fire caused extensive damage to the house and its contents.

Deshraj’s family, who resides in Uttar Pradesh, is now on their way to Surat, fearing the worst.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of LPG leaks and the importance of regular safety checks. As news of the blast spread, residents expressed concern about the aging gas cylinders in their homes and urged authorities to conduct safety inspections in the society.

“This is a wake-up call for all of us,” said another resident. “We need to be more vigilant and ensure the proper maintenance of our gas appliances.”

The investigation into the cause of the blast is ongoing, but one thing is clear: the pre-dawn explosion has left two lives hanging in the balance and a community shaken by the sudden tragedy.

“It was a terrifying sound,” said a neighbor, recalling the moment of the blast. “We just hope and pray that they both pull through.”
