Anand :  In a tragic twist of fate, 20-year-old Piyush Chauhan, a fourth-semester nursing student at Vinayaka Institute of Nursing College, in Anand, Gujarat became a patient himself when he suffered a fatal heart attack on Tuesday. The incident, adding to the growing number of young lives lost to heart attacks in Gujarat, has sparked outrage over the lack of proper cardiac care facilities in Anand.

“A student living in the hostel was brought here by his friends to the General Hospital due to chest pain. At that time the condition of this student was very serious. This patient was given CPR and attack medicine here. However, this patient was in need of ICU and cardiology, but as the general hospital did not have cardiology facilities, he was referred to Karamsad Hospital” aid Dr. Amar Pandya, Civil Surgeon of Anand General Hospital.

Sadly, Piyush never made it, leaving his family and fellow students in deep mourning.

“It is worth mentioning that if there was a cardiology facility in Anand General Hospital, the student’s life could have been saved,” lamented a resident, echoing the widespread sentiment of frustration and anger.

The tragedy highlights the critical need for advanced medical facilities in Anand. Despite gaining district status 27 years ago, the lack of a proper civil hospital and the inadequate equipment at Anand General Hospital are putting lives at risk.

“Due to poor leadership, a civil hospital could not be built in the district till today,” said another resident. “On the other hand, the lack of advanced treatment facilities in Anand General Hospital is costing lives.”

The Piyush Chauhan case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of neglecting healthcare infrastructure. His family and community are demanding immediate action – a call that resonates throughout Anand and beyond.

As young lives continue to be lost, the question remains: when will the authorities prioritize improving healthcare in the region and put an end to this preventable tragedy?
