Surat : The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Western Region, in partnership with Herbalife, a premier global nutrition and wellness company launched an impactful mass awareness campaign through the ‘Eat Right Millets Mela’ and a Walkathon at Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. The primary objective of this campaign is to promote safe, healthy eating practices amongst the citizens and encourage the public to incorporate millet into their dietary routine for enhanced well-being.

The event commenced with the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Aayush Oak, Collector, and District Magistrate Surat, who flagged off the walkathon, setting an enthusiastic tone for the day. Following that, Shri Rajiv Jain IPS, Additional Commissioner Mumbai Police Maharashtra, inaugurated the ‘Eat Right Millets Mela’ with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The occasion was further graced by other esteemed guests, including Dr. Kishore Sinha N Chavda, Vice Chancellor Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Mr. Harish Pant, Senior Director Global Government Affairs, Herbalife India, and Ms. Pritee Chaudhary, IRS Regional Director FSSAI.

The main objective of the ‘Eat Right Millets Mela’ is to educate individuals about the immense value of millets and raise awareness about their significant health advantages in our everyday lives. This event will serve as a platform where different stalls will showcase a variety of food recipes prepared with millets, providing easy-to-make options for integration into daily food habits.

The Mela will offer engaging activities throughout the day, including exhibitions, expert discussions, quizzes, rangoli competitions, recipe competitions, poster making, slogan writing, cultural shows, millet-based fashion shows, skits, and traditional and folk-dance performances, ensuring an enriching and entertaining experience for all attendees.

“We are witnessing an agricultural renaissance with the most ancient crop of the world becoming the present and the future crop,” quotes Mr. G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, Chief Executive Officer, FSSAI, setting the context for the Millet Walkathon and Mela.

“We are proud to be involved in this meaningful initiative, as part of our ongoing collaboration with FSSAI since 2021, which aims to raise consumer awareness about safe and nutritious food choices. As the Eat Right Millets Mela takes place, we fully support the efforts of FSSAI to create an environment that allows us all to tackle the nutritional deficiencies in our country. Events like this hold the transformative power to revolutionize citizens’ eating habits and play a significant role in building a healthier nation” said, Ajay Khanna, Senior Vice President & Managing Director of Herbalife India.

By engaging with different stakeholders, industry experts, and the general public, Herbalife is actively contributing to building a healthier society. These initiatives can inspire people to make informed choices about their diets and lead healthier lifestyles overall.
