Daman : The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Daman has recently introduced a groundbreaking elective titled “Making Sense with Music” aimed at Fashion Management and Textile Design students. This 28-hour curriculum is designed to blend the art of fashion with the dynamic world of music, offering students a fresh perspective on how sound influences style and creativity.

At the heart of this innovative program is the belief that music and fashion share a unique synergy. The curriculum is carefully structured into five engaging modules: Sarali Varisas, Janta Varisas, Geethams, Swarajathi, and Nottuswaras. These modules not only expose students to the fundamentals of music but also encourage them to experiment with playlist creation and explore how various musical elements can inspire design aesthetics.

“We are happy to launch this innovative curriculum, which will enable our students to develop a deeper understanding of the relationship between music and fashion,” said Campus Director Dr Sandeep Sachan. His enthusiasm underscores NIFT Daman’s commitment to equipping students with unconventional skills that bridge traditional academic boundaries.

The program is delivered by renowned vocalist Vineet Nair, who brings over 15 years of expertise in Carnatic music to the classroom. Hailing from Kerala, Vineet’s unique approach to music—where traditional forms meet contemporary expression—makes him an ideal mentor for this course. “The students welcomed this unique opportunity to explore the fascinating connection between music and fashion,” Vineet Nair remarked, emphasizing the transformative potential of the elective on creative thinking.

Twenty-eight students from the Fashion Management and Textile Design streams have enrolled in this elective, eager to explore new dimensions of artistic expression. Through this course, students gain practical skills in understanding musical compositions and their relevance to fashion trends. The integration of music into their academic journey is expected to spark innovative ideas and nurture a more holistic understanding of design and style.

The “Making Sense with Music” course is poised to revolutionize fashion education at NIFT Daman. By fostering an environment where creative expression is intertwined with technical knowledge, the initiative promises to empower students with a multifaceted skill set. This blend of music and fashion is a testament to NIFT Daman’s dedication to staying ahead in educational innovation, preparing its students to excel in an ever-evolving creative landscape.
