Gujarat : FIR Against BJP MP Jashu Rathwa Sparks Political Firestorm in Gujarat

Chhota Udepur | Gujarat — A victory celebration that was meant to mark electoral success in Chhota Udepur has now escalated into a major law-and-order controversy, after a viral video showed public display of firearms during the procession. The incident has triggered police action against several political figures, including BJP MP Jashu Rathwa, his son Sangramsinh Rathwa, and local party functionaries.

The controversy erupted following the results of the local body elections, where BJP candidates secured key positions in the taluka panchayat. A celebratory procession was organised in the region, but the mood quickly turned contentious after visuals surfaced on social media showing leaders allegedly carrying guns in public during the event.

As the video went viral, public outrage and political criticism intensified. Opposition voices questioned the apparent breach of law and raised concerns over selective enforcement. A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “The matter came to our notice through social media monitoring. After verifying the footage, a case has been registered for violation of the arms-related notification and public safety norms.”

Following instructions from senior officials, police registered a case against Sangramsinh Rathwa and Taluka Panchayat President Ramesh Rathwa, along with MP Jashu Rathwa.

Another officer stated, “No individual is above the law. If arms are displayed in violation of regulations during public gatherings, strict action will be taken irrespective of position or influence.”

The incident has triggered political tension across Chhota Udepur and wider Gujarat, with internal discussions reportedly underway within party circles over the reputational damage caused by the episode. Authorities are continuing further investigation into the origin of the weapons and the circumstances under which they were displayed during the celebration.
