Auro University Drift Jam Triggers Police Case in Surat

SURAT: A high-adrenaline drift show at Auro University has turned into a police case after videos of dangerous stunts performed on the campus went viral, raising serious questions over event permissions and student safety.

The ‘Drift Jam’, organised at the university on September 27, featured professional drifting, bike stunts and other activities. Event listings had advertised the programme at Auro University and promoted professional drifting and superbike stunts.

However, Ichhapore police said the event was held without the required police permission. Police have booked Ahmedabad-based organiser Alpesh Bhagvanbhai Rabari for allegedly performing acts that endangered human life. Police are also investigating whether others were involved.

Ichhapore Police Inspector Shital Shah said, “We have taken this incident very seriously and booked the organiser, Alpesh Rabari of Ahmedabad, for a negligent act endangering human lives. We are investigating whether anyone else was involved.”

Videos circulating online show cars performing drifting manoeuvres amid fireworks, while motorcycles were also used for stunt performances. One widely circulated clip shows a person emerging from a moving car while holding what appears to be a firecracker.

The event had been promoted as a motorsport and entertainment festival featuring professional drifting, superbikes, music and other attractions.

The incident has also put the spotlight on the responsibility of the venue and organisers when high-risk activities are conducted in a university setting. Questions have been raised over crowd safety, emergency preparedness and verification of mandatory permissions.

An Auro University official said the university administration had only provided space for the event. Police, meanwhile, are examining the circumstances surrounding the event and whether any other person or organisation had a role in the alleged violations.

The case has gained attention after videos of the stunts spread across social media. The footage has prompted questions about how potentially hazardous motorsport activities were conducted in a campus environment with students and other spectators present.

Police action is now focused on the organiser, while the investigation will determine whether further responsibility is established.
