Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul produced a masterclass in timing and shot selection, registering the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history with an unbeaten 152 off 67 balls against Punjab Kings.

At 34, Rahul is no longer part of India’s T20 setup, having last played the format more than three years ago. In a league now driven by ultra-aggressive young talent, his innings was a reminder that classical batting still has a place in modern T20 cricket.

The IPL 2026 season has already seen a wave of fearless hitters—15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with his effortless bat swing, Punjab Kings’ 24-year-old Priyansh Arya impressing at the top, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Abhishek Sharma expanding his attacking range, and Sanju Samson continuing his dominance in Chennai Super Kings colours. Yet none of them, on this occasion, matched the control and range shown by Rahul.

Against Punjab Kings, Rahul built his innings with precision, blending elegant drives, clean lofted shots, and calculated aggression. His knock of 152 not only anchored Delhi Capitals’ innings but also set a new benchmark for Indian batters in the IPL.

While much of the T20 conversation revolves around power-hitting youth, Rahul’s performance underlined his complete skill set and experience, proving that classical technique and modern intent can still dominate the shortest format.
