AhmedabadTens of hundreds of villagers from Borisana village in Kadi taluka took to the streets shouting slogans against Ahmedabad-based Khyati Hospital following the death of two patients from Kadi after their angioplasty was allegedly conducted to benefit from the government scheme of PM-JAY.

Angry villagers alleged that there is no proper investigation into the death case of the two Kadi residents and the hospital authorities are enjoying protection due to the political clout. Due to the protests, there was two and a half kilometres of traffic jam on the road on Thursday morning.

After the Khyati hospital case, the Gujarat Medical Council has also come into action mode and issued notice to the hospital authorities to respond within seven days.Doctors including Dr. Prashant Vajirani will be investigated. Mehul Shah, a member of the Gujarat Medical Council, gave a statement and said that if there are other such doctors, action will be taken, the Medical Council will take action against such doctors.

It must be noted that the Ahmedabad police arrested Dr. Prashant Vajirani on late Wednesday night. Dr. Varjirani was taken to the hospital for medical check up. The accused was presented before the court.

Three separate complaints have been filed  against Dr. Prashant Vajirani, Karthik Patel, Sanjay Patolia, Rajshree Kothari, Chirag Rajput under culpable homicide and BNS sections 105, 110, 336, 318, 61.

It all started 8-10 years ago, when Dr Sanjay Patolia, a Rajkot-based bariatric surgeon established the Asian Bariatric hospital in a prime location at the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway in Ahmedabad.

However, after the hospital’s initial partners backed off, the hospital landed in the hands of Kartik Patel. The hospital was renamed Khyati Multispeciality Hospital, based on its association with Khyati Group.

The group’s website reads, “specialisation in real estate, education, health care, pulp & paper industry & infrastructure”.

Dr Patolia, who continued his association with the hospital, currently faces action in the Kadi patients’ death case. The medical officer who is part of the investigating team contacted New Life Hospital of Rajkot owned by Dr Patolia and got to know that he visits Rajkot OPD for surgeries every Thursday. However, his six surgeries lined-up for Tuesday were cancelled after the Khyati hospital scam came out.

Kartik Patel, Khyati Group’s current owner, is accused of defrauding crores of rupees of  investors by launching a scheme of 650 plots in Bhadaj, near Sanand. The plot scheme at ‘The Park Land Avenue’ in Sanand, has attracted numerous investors who have paid for plots but have not received the necessary documentation.

It is alleged that Patel has violated cooperative society laws in this scheme. The estimated fraud amount is between ₹700 crore and 900 crore.

The Khyati Multispeciality Hospital of Khyati Group has been running its business for years without a valid registration under the Gujarat Clinical Establishment Act, 2021.

A BJP leader is suspected to be part of the profit-making Khyati Hospital.

Viral images on Patel’s social media account show the close relations with top BJP leaders of north Gujarat.
