Surat : Surat, a city with nearly 70,000 auto rickshaws, is set to see major changes in its traffic management as the Surat Police and Municipal Corporation (SMC) prepare designated parking spaces for rickshaw drivers. This move aims to reduce congestion and prevent traffic violations, especially in crowded areas like the railway station, Ring Road, Bhagal, Parvat Patiya, Limbayat, Udhna, and Sachin Marg.

Strict Action Against Rickshaw Drivers Violating Rules

Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot has warned that rickshaws found parked outside designated spots will face strict penalties. Additionally, in the coming days, the police will initiate a crackdown on rickshaw drivers playing loud music, obstructing main roads, or violating traffic norms.

Surat Police will use CCTV surveillance to track and penalize offenders. Auto rickshaw drivers causing inconvenience at intersections or congested areas will be fined, and repeat offenders may face criminal charges. The move is expected to bring significant relief to commuters who have long faced traffic disruptions caused by reckless rickshaw parking and driving.

Dumper Owners to Face Legal Action for Violations

Alongside the auto rickshaw regulation, Surat Police is also tightening rules on dumper trucks that operate within the city during restricted hours. Any dumper found in the city outside the permitted time frame will lead to legal action against its owner, not just the driver.

This decision comes after repeated incidents where dumpers have caused accidents, property damage, and major traffic disruptions. In cases where dumpers are driven without a license or violate restrictions, criminal cases will be filed against transport owners as well.

Ensuring Safer and Smoother Roads in Surat

With these strict measures, the Surat Police aims to improve road safety, ease congestion, and ensure smoother traffic flow. The introduction of designated parking for rickshaws and stringent enforcement against dumpers will likely transform the city’s commuting experience, making roads safer for pedestrians and drivers alike.
