Ahmedabad : In the span of the last 24 hours, three distressing incidents rocked different locales, leaving a trail of fatalities and injuries in Gujarat.
The first incident occurred during municipal work in Surendranagar, where a contract worker, Ramjibhai, sustained fatal injuries while attempting to tackle a stray ox, as mandated by a High Court directive. Despite prompt efforts, Ramjibhai succumbed to severe internal injuries at a government hospital.
In a separate tragedy, a contract laborer lost his life while engaged in the dismantling of Gujarat Electricity Board’s branch office. Munisinh Damor tragically became trapped under a collapsing wall during the demolition process. This marks the second fatality within two days, following the demise of Arjan Balsinh under similar circumstances. Negligence and inadequate safety measures by the contractor have prompted a criminal complaint in connection to these incidents.
The third unsettling event unfolded in Ode village, Anand district, when a clash erupted between the Police Department’s State Monitoring Cell (SMC) and supporters of a local bootlegger during a raid.
As the SMC team attempted a raid on a liquor den, violence erupted between the bootlegger’s supporters and the SMC members, resulting in injuries to local residents. Allegations from locals point to an unfruitful raid followed by an attack by the SMC team, leading to injuries. Consequently, a complaint has been lodged against the SMC team at the Khambhloj police station.
