Gujarat Shooter Elavenil Valarivan Honoured With ₹1.33 Crore

GANDHINAGAR : Gujarat rifle shooter Elavenil Valarivan’s two-silver medal haul at the Asian Games 2026 has earned her a ₹1.33 crore reward from the state government, with Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi honouring the athlete for her international achievement.

Valarivan won silver medals in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle individual and team events at the Asian Games in Japan, bringing national attention to Gujarat’s growing sporting talent.

Honouring the 27-year-old shooter, Sanghavi said the government was committed to providing athletes with training, facilities and financial support to compete at the highest level.

“When a son or daughter brings glory to the country at the international level, it is not only the result of the athlete’s hard work but also the significant contribution of parents,” Sanghavi said.

He also highlighted Valarivan’s association with the Sanskardham complex under the government’s DLSS scheme, saying her success could inspire thousands of young athletes across Gujarat.

The state government said Valarivan has received ₹1.33 crore under the Shaktidoot and Olympic Incentive schemes, besides ₹74 lakh through schemes including DLSS and Khel Mahakumbh. Her total government incentives stand at ₹2.41 crore.

Valarivan, a resident of Ahmedabad’s Maninagar area, has been associated with the Gujarat government’s Shaktidoot Scheme since 2017-18 and currently holds an ‘A’ category position.

Her international career includes appearances at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics. She won gold at the 2019 ISSF World Cup in Rio de Janeiro with a score of 251.7.

The shooter also received the Arjuna Award in 2022 and has won medals at Junior World Cups, Asian Airgun Championships, the World University Games and international events in Europe and Asia.
