GANDHINAGAR : For citizens travelling from remote corners of Gujarat to seek police intervention, the Public Relations Centre at Police Bhavan in Gandhinagar has emerged as a direct channel for raising grievances and seeking action.
The centre, launched on February 4, 2026, has received representations from around 310 applicants in eight months, including people from remote areas of Kutch and Saurashtra and tribal regions of South Gujarat.
The initiative is being monitored under the guidance of State Police Chief Gyanendra Singh Malik and Law and Order DGP Rajkumar Pandian.
According to the Gujarat Police, each representation is registered and examined on the basis of facts and available evidence. The centre also coordinates with senior police officers in the concerned district or city to ensure follow-up.
Of the cases received, 28 serious representations resulted in FIRs being registered immediately through the concerned police stations.
The authorities have also sought progress reports in around 67 cases, allowing senior officers to monitor the action taken after a representation is forwarded.
The centre is staffed by Police Inspector Palak Patel, Police Sub-Inspectors N.G. Barad and M.J. Patel, Head Constable Manilal Vangai and Police Constable Kishanbhai Rathod.
Officials said applicants are heard patiently and their complaints are assessed before appropriate action is initiated.
The police have also sought to maintain checks against misuse of the grievance mechanism. Legal action has been initiated against eight applicants whose representations were found to be false or malicious during the investigation.
Applicants are also asked to submit feedback forms after visiting the centre. According to the police, citizens have rated the centre’s functioning “Excellent”, citing the conduct of staff, hearing of grievances, guidance and prompt action.
The Gujarat Police said the initiative is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and public confidence in the police system.
The centre’s functioning comes as part of efforts to ensure that geographical distance does not prevent citizens from approaching senior police authorities with genuine grievances.
