Ahmedabad | Gujarat — At a time when rising fuel prices and inflation are pinching household budgets across India, two brothers from a small village in Gujarat’s Patan district have captured the frustrations of millions through a simple satirical song that has exploded across Instagram with more than 7 million views in just five days.
The viral lyrics — “Brothers in India search for petrol, sisters search for LPG bottles, Modi Uncle is on foreign tour” — have become a talking point on social media, with users sharing reels and memes reflecting the growing public anxiety over fuel shortages, long queues and rising living costs.
The song was composed by brothers Pankaj Nayata and Arvind Nayata, residents of Nayata village located around 18 kilometres from Patan. Their sharp yet humorous take on inflation and fuel scarcity struck a chord immediately after another hike in petrol and diesel prices was announced earlier this week.
Petrol prices increased by ₹2.61 per litre while diesel rose by ₹2.71, marking the fourth hike in a month. The increase has further intensified concerns about rising prices of vegetables, milk, groceries and other daily essentials.
Speaking about the unexpected popularity of the song, lyricist Pankaj Nayata said, “We never imagined this song would spread so widely. In just two days, nearly 2 million people watched it. We make songs according to the situation around us and people connect with them.”
Pankaj, who has studied up to Class 12 and runs his own Pinshu Recording Studio, said the inspiration came from everyday struggles people face at petrol pumps and gas agencies.
“Nowadays when we go to buy petrol or diesel, there are queues everywhere and people keep discussing shortages and price hikes. We thought of presenting the issue through music and humour,” he said.
The brothers revealed that they usually write, compose, sing, edit and upload the songs entirely on their own. “It takes about an hour to prepare the song from lyrics to final reel upload,” Pankaj added.
Despite the sarcastic tone of the songs, Pankaj insisted that their intention is entertainment rather than political targeting.
“We only try to make people laugh and think. Whatever happens, happens for good. As long as Narendra Modi is leading the country, we believe things will improve,” he said.
