Ahmedabad/Surat | Gujarat —  In a shocking move during the height of Golden Navratri, GST authorities launched raids on major Garba organisers in Ahmedabad and Surat, targeting alleged black-market sale of entry passes. Ten teams of GST officials swooped down on popular events, including those organised by Aditya Gadhvi, Jigardan Gadhvi, and Purva Mantri.

The raids, conducted simultaneously in Ahmedabad and Surat, have created ripples across the festive scene, raising questions about transparency in event management.

A senior GST Officer said, “We have received credible complaints about the illegal sale of Garba passes at inflated prices. Our teams are taking strict action to ensure compliance with tax laws and fair practices during the festival.”

Garba organisers expressed shock. A Surat event planner, said, “These raids during such a major festival have surprised organisers. Many of us were unaware of any wrongdoing, and we fully intend to cooperate with the GST department.”

The GST action has sent a clear message that large-scale cultural events will not be exempt from tax scrutiny. Authorities have confirmed they are investigating ticket sales patterns and financial records of major Garba organisers to ensure accountability.

With Navratri being one of Gujarat’s biggest cultural events, this crackdown could set a precedent for stricter monitoring in future festivals. Traders, organisers, and attendees now await the GST department’s next moves as the festive season continues.
