40+ South Gujarat Bars Unite for High Court Bench in Surat

SURAT :  The long-pending demand for a Gujarat High Court bench in Surat has gained fresh momentum, with representatives of more than 40 bar associations from South Gujarat coming together and unanimously resolving to intensify the campaign.

The “GET TOGETHER – Mission for High Court Bench at Surat (South Gujarat)” was held at Vatika Resort, Kamrej, where presidents and office-bearers of more than 40 bar associations backed a joint written resolution seeking establishment of a Gujarat High Court bench in Surat.

The meeting was organised by elected members of the Bar Council of Gujarat from South Gujarat, with advocates including Zaki Sheikh, Bhaveshbhai Rabari, Hiteshbhai Patel, Pritiben Joshi, Hareshbhai Nakrani, Hiralben Panwala, Vandanaben Bhatt and Praveenbhai Patel involved in its coordination.

The resolution called for a united campaign and representations before the Gujarat High Court, state government and other competent authorities through democratic and constitutional means.

“This is not just the demand of one city or one bar; this is the joint and reasonable demand of the entire South Gujarat legal community,” representatives of the Bar Council of Gujarat elected from the region said.

They described the gathering of more than 40 bar associations on a single platform as a demonstration of the region’s “unprecedented unity” and said the campaign would now be pursued in a more organised and sustained manner.

Lawyers said the absence of a High Court bench in South Gujarat forces litigants, advocates and other stakeholders to travel repeatedly to Ahmedabad for High Court-related proceedings. They argued that such travel involves substantial expenditure, time and professional difficulties.

The representatives resolved to remain united and continue pressing the demand until it reaches its intended outcome.

The meeting has consequently emerged as a significant show of solidarity among South Gujarat’s legal fraternity, turning what has traditionally been a regional demand into a coordinated campaign involving bar associations across the region.

The organisers said the next phase would focus on sustained representations before the competent authorities.
