Ahmedabad-Surat Court Bomb Threat: Cybercrime Arrests Suspect in Chennai

AHMEDABAD/SURAT: A threatening email naming courts in Ahmedabad and Surat triggered a security alert across Gujarat, prompting bomb and dog squad searches before cybercrime investigators traced the suspected sender to Chennai and arrested him.

The email was received on Saturday at the official email address of the Registrar of the Gujarat High Court. The message reportedly contained references to “bomb RDX Ahmedabad and Surat court”, raising immediate concerns about a possible attack.

Following the threat, security agencies launched a detailed search of the court premises. Teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and the Dog Squad thoroughly checked the premises and surrounding areas. No explosives, suspicious objects or unidentified persons were found during the operation.

After preliminary verification indicated that the threat email could be false, the Cybercrime team registered a case and began tracing its digital origin.

During the investigation, cybercrime officials reportedly established that the email had been sent from Chennai. A team was subsequently dispatched to the Tamil Nadu capital, where the suspected sender was arrested.

Officials are now bringing the accused to Ahmedabad for further questioning. Investigators are examining the motive behind the email and are also checking whether the accused has previously sent similar threats to courts or government institutions.

“The threat was taken seriously and all necessary security protocols were immediately activated. The investigation is focused on establishing the sender’s motive and whether there is any larger conspiracy,” an official familiar with the investigation said.
