CM Bhupendra Patel Inaugurates Quality Conclave on BIS Foundation Day

Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Quality Conclave in Gandhinagar on the occasion of the 78th Foundation Day of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). Organized by BIS’s Ahmedabad office in collaboration with the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event emphasized the significance of quality and standards in aligning with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Make in India, Made for the World.”
Promoting Quality through Innovation
Addressing the conclave, CM Patel highlighted the importance of high-quality products and services to achieve the Prime Minister’s goal of “Zero Defect, Zero Effect” and building a global “Brand India.” To inspire young minds, the Chief Minister launched a Gujarati comic book designed to raise awareness about quality standards among schoolchildren. He also presented trophies to winners of the “Standard Carnival” quiz competition.
The Chief Minister stated that under PM Modi’s leadership, India is poised to become the world’s third-largest economic power. He commended the Bureau of Indian Standards for playing a pivotal role in elevating Indian products and services to international standards, ensuring their global competitiveness.
Advancing Quality in Gujarat
CM Patel emphasized the transformative impact of the new BIS Acts introduced in 2016, which have significantly enhanced the “Ease of Doing Business” in India. He noted that Gujarat has not only improved product quality but has also streamlined its public service delivery systems, fostering a culture of excellence.
Under the leadership of PM Modi, the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office achieved ISO 9001 Quality Certification in 2009, setting a benchmark for quality standards in governance. Continuing this legacy, the office has now secured ISO 9001-2015 Certification for 2024-2026. Moreover, Gujarat’s Procurement Policy 2024 prioritizes the acquisition of BIS-certified products, further reinforcing the state’s commitment to quality.
BIS Initiatives and Industry Collaboration
In his welcome address, Sumit Sengar, Director of BIS Ahmedabad, detailed the organization’s efforts to advance quality and standards in Gujarat. He highlighted that of the 10,000 standard clubs established nationwide by BIS, 1,200 operate in Gujarat, promoting a scientific understanding of standards among students. Gujarat also accounts for 12% of all BIS licenses issued in India, reflecting the state’s leadership in quality assurance.
Sengar reiterated BIS’s dedication to contributing to the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, working closely with stakeholders to achieve this goal. Shri Sandeep Engineer, President of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event, emphasizing the vital role of quality standards in driving industrial growth.

The conclave witnessed active participation from business leaders, industrialists, and BIS officials, marking a significant milestone in Gujarat’s journey toward maintaining high-quality standards. The event underscored Gujarat’s role in shaping a future where quality and sustainability define India’s global reputation.
