Ahmedabad, Gujarat – Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport a.k.a Ahmedabad Airport, managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd., the flagship incubator of the globally diversified Adani Portfolio, is charting a course for sustained growth. It delivered an exceptional performance in the fiscal year 2024-25. This period witnessed not only a remarkable surge in passenger traffic but also a significant leap forward in infrastructure and technological capabilities, positioning Ahmedabad as a rapidly evolving aviation hub.

Between 01 April 2024 and 31 March 2025, SVPI Airport welcomed an unprecedented 13,427,697 passengers, marking a substantial 14.8% increase compared to the 11,696,227 travellers in the preceding financial year. This impressive growth trajectory underscores Ahmedabad’s importance as a destination and a crucial transit point. The breakdown reveals a robust domestic sector, with over 11 million domestic passengers, complemented by a strong growth in international passengers, with over 2.2 million passengers connecting from Ahmedabad to global destinations.

The past financial year also saw Ahmedabad host several world-class events, contributing to peak travel periods. The airport recorded its highest-ever passenger and aircraft traffic movements on 25 January 2025, serving an impressive 48,137 passengers with 351 aircraft movements. This peak surpassed the previous record of 42,224 passengers and 328 aircraft movements on 20 November 2023, highlighting the airport’s capacity to handle significant surges in demand.

SVPI Airport currently serves over 36,800 passengers daily, with an average of 288 flights, including charter movements, and connecting Ahmedabad to over 48 domestic and 16 international destinations.

The skies above Ahmedabad have also become significantly busier, with air traffic movements (ATMs) experiencing a notable 16.2% upswing. The airport handled 101,119 aircraft in FY 24-25, a considerable rise from the 87,025 movements in FY 23-24. This enhanced operational capacity is a direct result of strategic infrastructure investments. The addition of five new parking stands and implementation of a Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) at the existing aerobridges has optimised the use of available space.

Recognising the need to match growing demand with world-class facilities, SVPI Airport has embarked on a comprehensive programme of infrastructural and technological upgrades over the past year. These enhancements are designed to streamline processes, enhance passenger comfort, and ensure operational excellence:

  • Cutting-edge Cleaning Technology: The introduction of cleaning robots reflects a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and efficiency throughout the airport premises.
  • Expedited Check-in: Adding more self-baggage drop machines empowers passengers to expedite their check-in process, reducing queues and improving overall flow.
  • Seamless Immigration: Launch of the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Travellers Programme (FTI-TTP) and Digi Yatra at Terminal 2 leverages technology to offer eligible passengers a smooth immigration experience.
  • Enhanced Terminal Capacity: The inauguration of a new extended check-in hall in Terminal 2 provides a more spacious and comfortable environment for passengers preparing for their journeys.

Beyond these core operational improvements, SVPI Airport has also focused on elevating the overall passenger experience through a range of amenities:

  • Connectivity for All: Installation of free Wi-Fi coupon kiosks specifically for non-Indian SIM card holders enables travellers to stay connected upon arrival and departure.
  • Efficient Inter-Terminal Transfers: Inter-terminal electric shuttle buses offer a sustainable and convenient mode of transport for passengers with connecting flights.
  • Welcoming Amenities: The opening of the Udaan Yatri Café at Terminal 1 provides a comfortable space for travellers, complemented by a broader selection of retail and food & beverage options across both terminals to cater to diverse needs.

SVPI Airport’s growing connectivity is the outcome of the introduction of several new routes throughout the year. Domestic additions include Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Nanded, Kolhapur, Dimapur, and Kishangarh, broadening the airport’s reach across India. Internationally, new routes to Don Mueang (Bangkok), Kuala Lumpur, and Da Nang have strengthened Ahmedabad’s global links. Increased flight frequencies to key destinations such as Delhi, Jeddah, Don Mueang, Kuwait, Kolkata, Kochi, and Abu Dhabi reflect the rising demand and the airport’s responsiveness to passenger needs.

Recognising its role as a vital link for the surrounding cities, SVPI Airport has introduced a direct bus service to Vadodara, operated by the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), enhancing accessibility for travellers from neighbouring areas.

The dedication to excellence at SVPI Airport has been consistently recognised through a series of prestigious awards and certifications, including the ACI Level – 3 Certification, the Greentech EHS Global Award – 2024, multiple accolades at the 25th INSSAN event, the Greentech PCWR Awards 2024, the Platinum Award at the SEEM Awards 2024, a Certificate of Merit at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2024, and the 22nd Greentech Global Workplace Safety Award 2024. These accolades underscore the airport’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency.

Safety remains the cornerstone of SVPI Airport’s operations, and the remarkable achievement of 10 million incident-free work hours stands testament to the unwavering dedication and commitment of its workforce. Rigorous safety protocols, regular inspections, and frequent training sessions ensure a secure and efficient environment for all stakeholders.
