Fine Cast Group has been part of the story of industrialization in Anand for more than five decades. Founded in 1973 by Nalinbhai H. Shah and his brother, under the name of Fine Cast (Guj) Private Limited, the firm has always carried a tradition of quality manufacturing, customer orientation, and excellence from the very start. Over the years, what used to be a single foundry unit developed into an industrial group that consists of four manufacturing units, two foundries, and two machine shops, thus gaining a strong reputation both in Gujarat and across India.
Founded at a critical point in the industrial history of Gujarat, Fine Cast Company became a prominent industrial brand. Fine Cast, which was inaugurated by the Founding Chairman of Elecon Group, Shri Bhanubhai Bhai Patel and His Wife Madhuben Patel in 1973, played an important role in shaping the industrial identity of Anand GIDC. In 1998, it set up the first machine shop in the Anand GIDC area, showing a far-sighted approach to developing integrated production capabilities.
Currently, Fine Cast Group is renowned for its proficiency in producing industrial castings, gearboxes, gears, and parts of earth moving machinery. Among the main strengths of Fine Cast Group is the trust that it has earned throughout all these decades with many customers staying with the company for more than twenty years. Its sister company, Himsons Cast, has maintained long-term cooperation with Mahindra & Mahindra for almost three decades as a Tier 1 supplier.
However, it should be noted that Fine Cast Group managed to gain even more recognition in the area where it operated. It can be seen from the fact that a nearby crossing was called “Finecast Chokdi” and is well-known among locals to this day. Therefore, it became possible to make this business entity an inseparable part of the area’s social fabric.
The future of the organization has begun to be defined by a new generation as time passes. Swayam Shah is one individual in this generation, bringing a new point of view that combines international experience with local knowledge. Having received his education in London, Swayam Shah came back to Anand having gained a deeper understanding of his background, his heritage, and what his responsibilities towards his environment are.
As he spent time in London, Swayam was engaged in working for the Indian diaspora by participating in leadership positions in various student groups in his university. As Secretary of the Indian Society, and then as Secretary of the Hindu Society, he supported his university in their endeavor to provide a sense of community and belonging to the Indian students by organizing cultural events and representing their interests abroad. Eventually, he was promoted to become the President of the Hindu Society for 2025-26.
In such positions, he participated in organizing cultural events like Diwali and Navratri that saw the participation of over 300 students in each event. Also, in his capacity as one of the leaders within these societies, he was responsible for aiding new students to adjust to university life in London. This experience helped him in developing his leadership skills as well as his conviction regarding culture and community relations.
While Swayam’s involvement in the family business cannot be viewed strictly through the prism of his industrial experience, his overall approach seems to go beyond that and encompasses much wider perspectives. Not only his background and exposure to the business world have contributed to shaping his point of view, but also his involvement in culture, his interaction with young people, leadership, and community development. By gaining more and more experience within Fine Cast and learning about the heritage of previous generations, Swayam has started creating his own identity in Anand.
One such example is that of Anand Running Club on Instagram, which is a community-based social running group curated by Swayam to promote fitness and connect youths via discipline and health-related activities. It is indeed refreshing and relevant because youths of Anand can now interact among themselves and develop a sense of community based on fitness.
Another instance where it is evident that Swayam has been involved in contributing to youth leadership and making contributions to society is that he will be serving as the Secretary of the Rotaract Club in 2026–27. Despite his career path, Swayam still engages in such charities, suggesting that leadership involves more than professional success.
In essence, the story of Fine Cast Group and Swayam Shah is that of continuity and evolution of tradition and culture. In times when the majority of young professionals are looking for career prospects elsewhere, Swayam Shah’s decision to come back to Anand brings about an interesting paradigm shift – that of gaining global insight while staying connected to one’s roots.
While the company progresses with its industrial operations based on decades of reputation and experience, the involvement of the third generation of Fine Cast promises not only success in business but also in community and culture.
