India’s startup ecosystem is no longer limited to metro cities, elite institutions, or conventional business backgrounds. Across the country, a new generation of entrepreneurs is emerging from smaller towns and rural communities, bringing with them ideas shaped by real-life experiences and social challenges. One such story is that of Arjun Apparao Jadhav, the founder of GetExtra.in.

Born into a farmer’s family in Maharashtra, Arjun grew up far from the fast-paced world of technology startups. However, as smartphones rapidly became part of daily life across urban and rural India alike, he noticed a concerning pattern developing among children. Increasingly, children were spending hours consuming reels, gaming content, and short-form entertainment with little focus on creativity, imagination, or meaningful learning.

For Arjun, the issue was not technology itself, but the direction in which digital consumption was moving.

This observation eventually led to the creation of GetExtra.in, an audio storytelling platform launched in 2024 from Pune, Maharashtra. Built around the concept of meaningful audio engagement, the platform aims to provide children and families with an alternative to excessive screen-based entertainment.

While many startups in the digital content industry compete for maximum screen time and engagement, GetExtra.in takes a noticeably different route. Its focus lies in encouraging children to listen rather than constantly watch. The platform offers audio stories based on Indian mythology, history, inspirational personalities, culture, self-development, and value-based storytelling.

According to Arjun, the inspiration behind the platform came from the storytelling culture that once played a major role inside Indian homes.

“Stories told by grandparents carried lessons, emotions, culture, and imagination. Today, children are surrounded by screens all the time. I wanted to bring back meaningful storytelling through technology in a modern format,” he says.

The startup reflects an emerging trend within India’s entrepreneurial landscape where founders are increasingly attempting to solve social and behavioral problems rather than simply creating entertainment-focused applications.

GetExtra.in’s audio-first approach also aligns with growing conversations around children’s screen dependency and digital wellness. Unlike video-heavy platforms that require continuous visual attention, audio content allows children to engage with stories while using their imagination and concentration skills more actively.

The platform has particularly positioned itself as a family-friendly alternative for parents seeking healthier digital experiences for children. By combining entertainment with educational themes, the startup hopes to create content that contributes positively to learning habits and overall mental engagement.

Another aspect that makes the journey of GetExtra.in noteworthy is its grassroots entrepreneurial foundation. Arjun’s rural upbringing has significantly influenced the vision behind the company. Coming from a farming background, he says he understands the value of simplicity, discipline, and long-term thinking – principles that continue to shape the platform’s mission today.

At a time when India’s digital ecosystem is witnessing explosive growth among younger users, startups like GetExtra.in are attempting to redefine how technology is consumed by the next generation.

The company believes that audio storytelling has the potential to become one of the most impactful forms of digital engagement in the years ahead, particularly for children growing up in highly screen-dominated environments.

As conversations around digital wellness, parenting, and mindful technology usage continue to grow, GetExtra.in represents a new category of startups focused not just on user attention, but on user impact.

For Arjun Apparao Jadhav, the journey is not only about building a successful startup. It is about creating a platform that encourages children to imagine more, learn more, and engage with technology in a healthier and more meaningful way.
