Mumbai | Maharashtra — The global diamond industry has ushered in a new leadership chapter as Ronnie Vanderlinden was elected President of the World Diamond Council, while Anoop Mehta was unanimously chosen as Vice President during the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held in Antwerp.
The appointment comes at a crucial time when the diamond trade is navigating economic uncertainties, shifting consumer trends and evolving global supply chains. Industry stakeholders across continents welcomed the leadership team, expressing confidence in their ability to guide the sector through a transformative phase.
Anoop Mehta, who currently serves as President of the Bharat Diamond Bourse, brings decades of experience representing one of the world’s largest diamond trading communities. His unanimous election highlights India’s growing influence in the global diamond value chain.
Industry observers believe the new leadership duo combines global expertise with strong market representation. “This leadership team brings the experience and vision required to strengthen trust, transparency and sustainability in the diamond industry,” said a senior trade representative.
Speaking after the announcement, Vanderlinden emphasised the importance of collaboration. “The diamond industry thrives on trust and partnership. Together, we will work towards a stronger, more transparent and resilient future for the global diamond trade,” he said.
Mehta echoed the sentiment, noting the significance of industry unity. “It is an honour to serve the World Diamond Council at this important time. We will continue working closely with stakeholders worldwide to build a structured and sustainable future for the diamond sector,” he stated.
The World Diamond Council plays a vital role in representing the international diamond value chain and promoting responsible sourcing and ethical practices. With the new leadership team in place, industry members expect renewed focus on strengthening global cooperation, enhancing transparency and ensuring long-term stability.
