West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was seen visiting a vegetable market in her Bhabanipur constituency on Saturday evening, drawing attention online amid ongoing political exchanges with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit came shortly after Banerjee’s public appearance at a rally, where she was seen engaging with locals and later stopping for a casual shopping stop that included vegetables and fruits.

Market Visit Catches Public Attention

The 71-year-old Chief Minister was observed selecting fresh produce, with visuals showing her adding fruits to her shopping basket. Banerjee has been known to occasionally visit local markets in her constituency, but the timing of this visit sparked political discussion.

This came in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent public appearance where he was seen taking a snack break involving jhalmuri, which had already drawn media attention.

Political Footmarch in Bhabanipur

Earlier in the day, Banerjee led a footmarch in Bhabanipur, where the BJP has fielded Suvendu Adhikari, her former aide and now Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly.

The march featured traditional cultural elements including:

  • Dhak (traditional drums)
  • Chou dance from Purulia
  • Political slogans and songs

Supporters were seen cheering “Didi Didi” as she walked through the neighbourhood, interacting with residents.

Banerjee’s Remarks on Development

During the public interaction, Banerjee highlighted development initiatives in the area, mentioning infrastructure projects across educational and religious institutions, including temples, colleges, and hospitals.

She also emphasized social harmony and accessibility of civic facilities for all communities.

PM Modi’s Remarks in Parallel Rally

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Bongaon, where he criticised the state government, referring to it as “Jungle Raj” and raising concerns over law and order in West Bengal.

He made strong remarks about women’s safety and governance, intensifying the ongoing political exchange between the two leaders.

Political Contrast Continues

The contrasting public appearances—Banerjee’s market visit and Modi’s rally—have further highlighted the ongoing political narrative between the Centre and the West Bengal government ahead of key political developments.
