SURAT: Raising a child is not only about discipline and academic success; it is also about listening, understanding and accepting emotions. With this focus, Navchetan Adani Vidyalaya Primary Section at Junagam (Shivrajpur), Hajira, organised a workshop on ‘Enjoy Parenting’ on August 26 to promote positive parenting.
The session, conducted by Parenting for Peace, saw participation from more than 200 parents of children aged five to 10 years.
Workshop speaker Minaz Panjwani used simple examples, stories and activities to explain how parents can respond to children with greater patience and empathy. She encouraged parents to recognise their children’s strengths and weaknesses instead of reacting with anger when they make mistakes.
“Parents should understand their child instead of simply getting angry at mistakes. Accepting a child’s feelings and listening carefully can strengthen the parent-child relationship,” Panjwani said.
The workshop highlighted the importance of love, care and emotional communication in shaping a child’s personality. Parents were also advised to avoid comparing their children with others, as such comparisons can affect their confidence and emotional development.
Paper-based activities and fictional stories helped participants understand that every child learns and responds differently. Stories promoting positive values were also used to encourage parents to adopt a constructive approach to parenting.
Special emphasis was placed on spending quality time with children. Parents were encouraged to devote at least 30 minutes every day to their children, listen without distraction and acknowledge their emotions.
The session offered practical guidance that parents could incorporate into daily family life.
Organisers said such initiatives can help create more sensitive family environments while strengthening communication, trust and emotional bonds between parents and children.
