Bangalore, India: In a quiet yet powerful corner of India’s animal welfare movement, one woman has spent over three decades doing what many consider impossible — showing up, every single day, for animals who have no one else to turn to.

Jeny Joseph Leon, founder of EarthSouls by JLL Foundation, has dedicated more than 35 years of her life to rescuing, feeding, treating, and rehabilitating abandoned, injured, and vulnerable animals across Bengaluru. What began as a simple act of compassion during her early working years gradually evolved into a lifelong mission — one that today supports over 350 animals through daily feeding, medical care, and long-term rehabilitation.

Unlike many initiatives that begin with institutional backing, EarthSouls was built almost entirely through personal commitment and individual sacrifice. Throughout her corporate career with global organizations, Jeny quietly channeled her own income and resources into rescue operations, veterinary care, feeding programs, and shelter support — without public campaigns, structured funding, or recognition.

Over the years, her work has extended far beyond rescue.

She has responded to road accident victims, taken in abandoned puppies, cared for elderly dogs, cats, birds, and even farm animals who had nowhere else to go. Many of the animals under her care today are long-term residents — unable to survive independently due to age, trauma, or medical conditions.

A Life Dedicated to Animal Advocacy

Jeny Joseph Leon’s journey in animal welfare is not limited to hands-on rescue work. She has also been a strong and consistent voice in India’s broader animal rights movement, contributing to several impactful initiatives over the years.

Among her many contributions:

  • Advocating for elephant welfare in Kerala, helping push for the creation of sanctuaries for rescued elephants
  • Establishing India’s first pet cemetery in 2003, offering grieving pet families a dignified way to say goodbye
  • Campaigning against animal cruelty practices, including the camel meat trade and exploitation in traditional systems
  • Actively advocating against the use of animals in circuses, contributing to the decline of exploitative animal performances in India
  • Leading on-ground interventions to stop animal sacrifices in temples, promoting humane and compassionate alternatives
  • Supporting conservation efforts to rehabilitate the endangered Slender Loris, a rare primate species at risk of extinction

Through years of tireless advocacy and hands-on work, Jeny has become a quiet yet influential force within India’s animal welfare ecosystem.

Building EarthSouls: A Mission Born from Compassion

While Jeny’s rescue work began decades ago, EarthSouls formally took shape as a structured initiative around 2015, with the JLL Foundation trust officially established in 2021.

Today, EarthSouls runs:

  • Daily feeding programs for street animals across Bengaluru
  • Emergency rescue operations for injured and abandoned animals
  • Veterinary treatment and medical care for critical cases
  • Long-term rehabilitation and shelter support for animals who cannot return to the streets

What makes EarthSouls unique is its deeply personal nature. Many of the animals under Jeny’s care have lived with her for years, forming bonds that reflect a commitment far beyond temporary rescue.

Her work is not defined by scale alone, but by continuity — the quiet discipline of showing up, every single day.

A Vision for a Sustainable Future

Looking ahead, Jeny’s focus is on building a permanent, self-sustaining sanctuary on the outskirts of Bengaluru — a space where abandoned, injured, senior, and special-needs animals can live safely for life.

The vision is not expansion for visibility, but stability for the lives already dependent on her care.

“This work has never been mine alone,” she says.

“It belongs to every person who believes that compassion is a responsibility.”

Those who come across her journey often find themselves becoming part of that responsibility — forming a growing circle of individuals who believe that compassion must be sustained, not occasional.

A Nationwide Story of Quiet Impact

At its core, the story of EarthSouls is not just about animal rescue. It is about resilience, empathy, and the power of one individual to create lasting impact without seeking attention.

Despite financial struggles, career transitions, and personal challenges, Jeny Joseph Leon never stopped showing up for animals in need. Her journey reflects a belief that meaningful change often begins quietly — through consistent acts of kindness.

As awareness around animal welfare continues to grow, her work stands as a reminder that real impact is not always built through systems and scale, but through commitment, responsibility, and unwavering compassion.

Because for over 350 lives, this is not charity.

This is survival.

Support her initiative with funds for paying off overdue vet bills and managing monthly expenses.
