AGDRT 2025 Opens at Bharat Diamond Bourse with Global Gem Experts

Mumbai | Maharashtra — Mumbai witnessed a historic moment for the global gem and diamond industry today as the 2nd edition of Advances in Gem and Diamond Research and Technology (AGDRT 2025) was inaugurated at the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) Convention Hall. The prestigious symposium has drawn internationally acclaimed scientists, gemologists, and researchers to present cutting-edge studies shaping the future of the industry.

Organised by the Gemmological Institute of India (GII), with support from BDB, GIA, and IGI, AGDRT has quickly earned its place as one of the world’s foremost platforms for research and knowledge exchange in gem and diamond technology.

Welcoming delegates, Mehul Shah, Chairman of GII, praised the collective efforts of the GII team in creating a “world-class symposium that provides a critical platform for knowledge sharing.” Shah also highlighted GII’s academic affiliation with Sigma University, announcing a new three-year degree course in diamonds and jewellery. “This initiative will help transform artisans into graduates, giving them recognition and status in the global market,” he said.

Shah expressed gratitude to BDB, GJEPC, IGI, and GIA for their continued support and acknowledged the presence of “research stalwarts and internationally renowned gemologists who bring immense value to the AGDRT platform.”

Among the dignitaries present were **Anoopbhai Mehta, President of BDB; Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC; Tom Moses, VP of GIA; Prof. Ramchandra Rao of IIT Madras; Anup Zaveri, Managing Trustee of GII; Dr. AVR Reddy, CEO of GII; Dr. Wuyi Wang of GIA; Noora Jamsheer, Head of DANAT Bahrain; Dr. Alexander Bulatov of RAS Moscow; Janak Mistry of Lexus Softmac Surat; Sanjiv Mani of BIS New Delhi; Dr. A. The two-day symposium will cover sessions on advancements in diamond synthesis, grading technologies, treatment detection, and innovations in gemological education. International experts will present research papers and share insights on how new technologies can shape transparency and consumer confidence in the jewellery trade.

Speaking about the importance of the symposium, Anoopbhai Mehta said, “Events like AGDRT not only enhance India’s position in the global diamond industry but also ensure our community remains at the forefront of technological innovation.”

AGDRT 2025 will run from September 22 to 23, 2025, setting the stage for collaborative dialogue, technological breakthroughs, and academic partnerships that promise to influence the future of the gem and jewellery industry worldwide.
