Ahmedabad/Rajkot/Vadodara/Surat — With eight fresh Covid-19 cases reported across Gujarat, including seven from Ahmedabad and one from Kadi, the state’s health department has swung into action, preparing isolation wards, stocking up on PPE kits, medicines, and ensuring the availability of oxygen and ventilators in major government hospitals.

The sudden spike in infections includes patients as young as a 2-year-old girl and as old as a 72-year-old man. While all patients are currently in home isolation and stable, authorities are not taking any chances.

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Ready with 1200-Bed Facility

In Ahmedabad, the epicenter of the latest outbreak, a 1200-bed Covid-dedicated hospital has been reactivated within the Civil Hospital premises. Two oxygen tanks with a capacity of 20,000 liters each are on standby.

“We are fully equipped. All 1200 beds are fitted with oxygen support. There’s no need to panic but we must remain cautious,” said Dr. Rakesh Joshi, Superintendent, Civil Hospital Ahmedabad. “The virus hasn’t vanished, and with this resurgence, we urge citizens to stay alert and follow protocols.”

Rajkot Civil Prepares Despite No Cases

Rajkot has not yet reported any new cases, but proactive measures are being taken. A special 20-bed isolation ward with ventilators, oxygen support, PPE kits, and essential medicines has been prepared. If needed, the hospital can ramp up to 200 beds.

“No cases so far, but our infrastructure is ready,” said Dr. Mahendra Chavda, Media Coordinator, Rajkot Civil Hospital. “We’ve converted the new building into a fully functional isolation zone. People should be alert, not afraid.”

Vadodara’s Sayaji Hospital Prepares 22-Bed Isolation Ward

Sayaji Hospital in Vadodara has not recorded any Covid cases yet but has created a 22-bed isolation ward. The hospital, which has 1,513 beds, is equipped with two 20,000-liter oxygen tanks and emergency ventilator support.

RMO Hitendra Chauhan said, “Even though we’ve had no positive cases so far, we’re ready to convert the emergency ward into a Covid care unit if needed. We’ve ensured the availability of jumbo cylinders, PPE kits, and sufficient medicine stock.”

Surat Civil Hospital on Standby

Surat, too, has not seen any new cases, but the Civil Hospital is on high alert. Officials stated that an isolation ward could be started immediately if needed. The hospital is fully equipped with oxygen, ventilators, and emergency resources.

“We are prepared for any sudden influx. The infrastructure is in place, and we’re in constant coordination with the health department,” said the Medical Officer of Surat Civil Hospital.

Health Department Urges Vigilance

While the current cases are mild and no hospital admissions have been required, the health department has issued fresh advisories. Citizens are urged to follow Covid-appropriate behavior — including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, and social distancing.

“This new variant is not known to be deadly, but carelessness can lead to rapid spread,” Dr. Chavda reiterated. “Early symptoms like cough, fever, or fatigue should not be ignored. People should seek immediate medical attention and avoid self-medication.”
